GPs prescribing Mounjaro
You might hear in the news soon that weight loss injections can be prescribed by your GP from June.
Whilst this is true, the criteria to qualify will be very strict.
From the 22,000 patients registered with Grand Union Health Centre, we think only around 12 will qualify. Some of these people will already be prescribed Mounjaro for their diabetes.
To avoid disappointment and wasted appointments, please check your eligibility below before booking an appointment to discuss Mounjaro.
Checklist:
- Your BMI must be above 40. You can check your BMI here if you know your height and weight. We will check your height and weight at your appointment, so it must be accurate.
- As well as a BMI over 40, you must have a confirmed diagnosis of at least four out of the following five health conditions:
– Hypertension (high blood pressure) needing medication
– Sleep apnoea (confirmed at a sleep clinic)
– Type 2 diabetes
– Cardiovascular disease (heart disease, vascular disease or stroke)
– Hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol)
If you don’t meet all of these criteria, your GP will not be able to prescribe you Mounjaro for weight loss under the current guidelines.
Please don’t book an appointment about Mounjaro if you do not meet the criteria.
